AHA Statement on Tragic Events at U.S. Capitol

AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack issued the following statement today in response to the violence last week at the U.S. Capitol.

“Like Americans everywhere, the American Hospital Association has reacted with alarm, outrage, and horror as the unfolding story around the violence at the Capitol grows ever worse.

“Make no mistake. We cannot support behavior that is violent and divisive. We denounce the acts of last week and the words and actions that contributed to the rioting at the Capitol.

“As AHA stated last week, peaceful protest is a cherished right, but violence and mob rule is forever out of bounds. We condemn the planning and execution of the assault on the Capitol in the strongest possible terms, including all parties involved in instigating the violence.

“Given these tragic events, AHA, like many organizations, is immediately reviewing our political giving practices to ensure they are guided by our Association’s vision and mission, as well as the democratic values we share as a nation.”
