CMS has published a new educational resource discussing the Medicare Claims Review Program is now available on the CMS website. This booklet provides an overview of the several initiatives implemented by CMS to prevent improper payments before a claim is processed and identify and recoup improper payments after a claim has been processed. CMS Memorandum on Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) Prospective Payment System and the impact of the 75% rule (June 8, 2007)

CMS rescinds Transmittal 65 (CR 5405 issued January 27, 2007) that would have affect qualifications for personnel and made changes to the definition of what constitutes skilled services in an acute care setting.

CMS Issues Correction to IRF Final Rule for 2007 (September 30, 2006)
On Friday, September 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a technical correction to the FY 2007 final rule for the inpatient rehabilitation facility prospective payment system. See the update that was published in the Federal Register. Most of these minor changes to the rule, which were effective October 1, pertain to the provisions on competitive bidding for durable medical equipment (which are not traditionally included in this rule). The update also corrects a type-setting error in the wage-index table.
