Hospitals and health systems remain on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to play an important role in efforts to vaccinate their patients and communities.

During an Aug. 23 White House COVID-19 virtual town hall focused on vaccinations, leaders from CommonSpirit, Northwell Health and Trinity Health unveiled six best practices and guiding principles that hospitals and health systems can commit to in order help enhance vaccination rates in their communities. The principles focus on:

  • Leveraging Patient Touch Points and System Expertise
  • Vaccinations at the Emergency Department
  • Vaccinations upon Hospital Discharge
  • Vaccinations at the Health System Ambulatory Network
  • Vaccinations throughout Continuum of Care
  • Leveraging Partnerships with Community and Faith-Based Organizations

Hospital and health systems can download the principles here.

On the town hall (you can access a replay here), leaders from the AHA and health systems encouraged hospitals and health systems throughout the nation to commit to implementing these best practices. Hospital and health system leaders should email coo@aha.org with the subject line Vaccination Principles Commitment to express their organization’s commitment to these principles.
