The American Hospital Association Designates RL Solutions as AHA Champion Sponsor for Quality and New Sponsor of the AHA Quest for Quality Prize

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has appointed RL Solutions, a global designer of health care quality and safety software, as the AHA Champion Sponsor for Quality. RL Solutions is also the new sponsor of the AHA Quest for Quality Prize.

RL Solutions was appointed as the AHA Champion Sponsor for Quality based on several criteria, including RL’s consistent alignment with the AHA’s mission, vision and major priorities; commitment to a long-term relationship with the AHA; collaboration with the AHA on many quality-focused initiatives; and offering of solutions of demonstrated value to AHA members. RL’s Incident Reporting & Management solution, RL6:Risk, has been exclusively endorsed by the AHA for nearly 10 years.

The AHA has presented the Quest for Quality Prize annually since 2002 to recognize health care leadership and innovation in improving quality and advancing health in communities. During 2017, the AHA put the prize on hiatus while it reviewed and refreshed the prize criteria to better align with the emerging priorities and practices essential to advancing the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered health care. Health systems are now eligible to apply for the prize in addition to hospitals.

The 2018 Prize seeks to promote “new thinking, innovation and creativity about the populations we serve,” said Quest for Quality Prize Committee Chairman Thomas Burke, M.D., a University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center professor of gynecological oncology and reproductive medicine. “We want to identify those organizations that are moving on to the next echelon.” Burke is M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s former executive vice president and physician-in-chief, and is a former AHA board member.

“When the Quest for Quality opportunity came along, we saw it as an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with the AHA and show our commitment to helping our clients achieve their quality and patient safety goals,” said Sanjay Malaviya, RL Solutions’ CEO and founder, and a member of the Quest for Quality Prize Committee. “It’s a great privilege to serve on the prize committee. I look forward to meeting the best in the field and learning more about what it takes to be the best.”

All applicants must demonstrate that they are striving to achieve the AHA’s commitments to expand access to affordable, equitable health, behavioral and social services; provide quality, safe and efficient care that adds value; partner with patients and families, embracing diversity of individuals; focus on well-being and partnering with community resources; and ensure coordination with seamless care propelled by teams, technology, innovation and data. Applicants must also address the replicability of their initiatives and other organizations’ ability to adapt and implement them.

“It’s an honor to be named the AHA’s Champion Sponsor for Quality,” said Malaviya. “At RL, we are excited to have the opportunity to do our part in the quest for quality, by supporting organizations and initiatives across the country that are striving for quality health care.”

Prize honors are one recipient; up to two finalists; and up to four Citation of Merit honorees. No more than five honors will be awarded. The winner will receive $75,000; each finalist will receive $12,500.

The 2018 AHA Quest for Quality awards will be presented at the 2018 AHA Leadership Summit (July 26 – 28, 2018) in San Diego. Visit the AHA Quest for Quality website to learn more about the Prize and to download an application. Applications must be submitted by midnight, Central Time, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017.
