Maternal cardiac arrest is rare but often fatal. Obstetricians and perinatal nurses are often first responders with limited experience in managing primary cardiac arrest and ACLS pregnancy modifications. Multidisciplinary simulations improve performance in catastrophe management but few studies regarding MCA simulation education exist.

Each hospital – one a women's and children's hospital and the other a psychiatric facility – have made a commitment to improve the experiences and outcomes for women of all socioeconomic status who are pregnant and have a substance abuse disorder.

The Section for Maternal and Child Health is guided by a council composed of 15 individuals representing health care leadership from some of the country's leading women's and children's health provider organizations and systems. Committee members serve as elected or appointed representatives of their member peers.
