Trustee Match Program

The American Hospital Association is partnering with the National Urban League and UnidosUS to match their affiliate executives to AHA member CEOs and governance leaders with the goal of placing these leaders on AHA member governance boards. According to AHA’s 2019 Governance Survey Report, survey respondents reported that African Americans and Hispanics represented 6% and 3% (respectively) of voting board members. By increasing diversity and inclusion on governance boards, AHA’s hospital and health system members can accelerate advancements in addressing health equity for patients and communities.

Benefits:

Health care trustees who understand the root causes, issues, needs and cultures of patients and communities can provide deeper insights that result in better decision-making about how to serve local communities. They also may have deep connections with other community leaders who can help hospitals and health systems address social determinants of health and help to achieve community health goals. Additionally, diverse and inclusive health care boards report richer discussions with boarder perspectives that help their organizations avoid missteps in implementing new programs and services for patient populations.

For Hospitals and Health Systems:

  • Deepen your knowledge and insight into the community you serve.
  • Execute culturally inclusive health equity strategies from the highest ranks of your organization to achieve optimal quality and patient safety for your patients.
  • Strengthen, sustain and forge meaningful community partnerships.

For NUL and UnidosUS Executives:

  • Exercise your innovative skills, abilities and business acumen to improve health inequities and social determinants of health within your community.
  • Gain access to best in class information, tools and resources to support your growth and development as a healthcare trustee.
  • Increase your impact within your community through health care governance leadership.
