How much of a difference can seven minutes really make? Overlake Medical Center and Clinics in Bellevue, Wash., has found out that those little increments really add up. Using the Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX) Copilot has led to greater efficiency, a better work-life balance for providers, and has alleviated feelings of burnout and fatigue.

The DAX Copilot is an AI tool that Overlake uses during patient-provider verbal interactions. The software drafts notes in real time that are immediately translated into the electronic health record system, meaning providers can now avoid what used to be hours of after-clinic work spent inputting handwritten or typed notes into the system. Providers can also focus better on the needs of their patients, rather than having to make sure everything discussed during the appointment is appropriately recorded. In a nationwide survey of 1,000 clinicians using the technology, respondents reported saving those seven precious minutes in notetaking per patient; 79% reported a better work-life balance; and 70% credited the software with reducing feelings of burnout.
