Minnesota hospital imports new rooms, eases strain on emergency department

Telling the Hospital Story: M Health Fairview St. John's team stands at entrance to new unit

Leaders at M Health Fairview St. John’s Hospital in Minnesota are addressing crowding and capacity constraints by opening a new, 16-bed short-stay and observation unit. The rooms were constructed as prefabricated modulars, which were built offsite in Appleton, Wisc., and transported to St. John’s campus, making it the first hospital in the state to use them. St. John’s is experiencing a 5% increase in inpatient visits and a 12% increase in ED visits since 2022.
