The first-time integration of two innovative technologies is providing immediate benefits to Wyoming cardiac patients.

During the summer of 2024, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) utilized the cutting-edge Nuvision ice catheter for Watchman procedures, becoming the first hospital on Wyoming’s Front Range to use this revolutionary technology.

The Watchman procedure implants a device in the heart to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots. With the patient under general anesthesia, specialists make a small incision in the groin, insert a catheter through a blood vessel, and use imaging to guide the catheter to the heart, placing the device in the left atrial appendage. The catheter is then removed, and the incision is closed.

According to CRMC cardiac care team, introducing the NuVision intracardiac echo catheter brings more precision to the guiding process for structural heart procedures. When used to assist with implanting the Watchman device, it provides live 3D views of the heart, reducing the need for general anesthesia and replacing the need for transesophageal echocardiography.
