Though Catalina Island is Small, its Medical Center is Mighty

Catalina Island Medical Center may be on a small island, but it has an outsized influence when it comes to providing care. As the only hospital serving Avalon, Calif. — home to 4,500 residents — CIMC staff also care for more than one million patients who visit the island annually.

And with a patient volume like that, CIMC continues to evolve to meet the needs of the community through numerous initiatives. Recent projects include the expansion of a fitness center; plans to build a new medical center; the purchase of the locally-loved Leo’s Catalina Drugstore, the island’s sole pharmacy; and a new clinical affiliation with UCI Health, announced in January 2023.
