Banner Health opens Arizona's first donor care center

Banner Health. Ribbon cutting at new Donor Care Center

The incredible gift of organ donation has saved countless lives over the years. Now, a new center in Arizona has opened to ensure proper care and treatment for the generous donors themselves.

In May, Banner Health and Donor Network of Arizona opened a new unit at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix dedicated to the care of organ donors to make better use of the gifts they offer and save even more lives.

The Donor Care Center (DCC) — the first of its kind in the state — is designed to promote consistent care and treatment of up to four donors at a time, magnifying the generosity of donors and their families and expanding the impact on lives saved through transplantation.

Organ donors who meet criteria will be transported from the originating hospital to which they were admitted to the DCC for continued care at a site conveniently located near Sky Harbor International Airport.

In addition to offering an elevated level of post-organ donation care and recovery, the opening of the DCC frees up beds in the originating hospitals that a donor would occupy ahead of a scheduled donated organ recovery.
