AHA and AVIA Announce Strategic Alliance

Alliance to help member hospitals and health systems scale digital transformation

Chicago (October 25, 2019) – To help the hospital and health system field accelerate its digital transformation, the American Hospital Association is pleased to announce it has formed a strategic alliance with AVIA, the leading partner for digital health insights, strategic guidance and consulting services. This alliance will combine the thought leadership and convening power of the AHA and AVIA’s unique expertise and resources in digital health to help hospital and health system leaders engage in bold and innovative ways.

“Health care is transforming, rapidly, and digital represents the health care system’s new front door,” said Maryjane Wurth, AHA executive vice president and chief operating officer. “Digital technology has implications for every aspect of health care, from the clinical to the operational. Collaborating with AVIA will help us deliver leading-edge expertise and assistance to our members as they advance on their digital journeys.”

At the intersection of innovation, digital technology and collaboration, this new alliance will bring to bear AHA’s expertise in thought leadership and AVIA’s digital know-how to advance progress on the patient experience of care, value-based care, the social determinants of health and quality. The alliance will allow AHA members to access an exclusive and customized forum in AVIA Connect, a digital innovation platform that provides personalized digital insights and peer-to-peer collaboration to accelerate digital strategies. Hospital and health system leaders will share leading practices around digital transformation and develop technology-enabled solutions at scale.

The AHA last year unveiled its innovation and transformation agenda, a key piece of which was the formation of the AHA Center for Health Innovation. Through the Center’s market intelligence work – including recent reports and leadership tools on artificial intelligence, evolving care models and virtual care – the AHA has seen the thirst among the field for more in-depth support and collaborative approaches to transformation. This alliance will help seize that opportunity.

“Innovation in a vacuum will benefit only one organization or one community,” said Wurth. “This alliance will allow us to scale and democratize new digital solutions and knowledge across a broader ecosystem.”

In the coming months, AHA will release a new offering through AVIA Connect for its membership of nearly 5,000 hospitals and health systems that assesses organizational maturity on key digital transformation topics such as the digital front door and improving access and quality through virtual health. AHA members will have access to leading practices, implementation frameworks and key insights developed through comprehensive research and unique data. These new tools complement a broader set of initiatives and programs coming from the Center that include new leadership training programs for rising health care leaders, provider-entrepreneur collaboration and clinical-community innovation.

“The evolution of hospitals and health systems is imperative, particularly as consumers are increasing their expectations and digitally enabled competitors are fighting for market share,” says AVIA CEO & Co-founder Eric Langshur. “We’re thrilled to form this strategic alliance with the AHA and excited to empower the digital transformation of its 5,000 members. Together, we’re poised to help achieve radical, sweeping change across the entire field.”
