WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 24, 2018) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that C. Douglas Shaw will become the AHA’s senior vice president of field engagement. Shaw currently serves as chief operating and development officer of Health Forum, the for-profit subsidiary of the AHA.

In his new role, Shaw will be responsible for engaging AHA member organizations in new ways to advance the work of the association.  He will oversee outreach to institutional members as well as the members of the association’s seven professional membership groups.

Before joining the AHA, Shaw was vice president and general manager of the analytics business within McKesson Technology Solutions, supplying analytic business intelligence, decision support, and data warehousing solutions to McKesson’s provider customers. Shaw also worked at Truven Health Analytics as senior vice president and general manager of its hospital business unit, and before that its employer business unit. Earlier in his career, Shaw worked at Aetna and Dun & Bradstreet in various informatics roles.

“Doug has more than two decades of experience with providers and payors. His willingness to try new approaches helped Health Forum transform to better serve hospitals and health systems and their business partners. Doug is a proven leader and we’re pleased that he will bring his combination of skills to a larger role at the association,” said Maryjane Wurth, AHA’s executive vice president and COO.

“Health care continues to transform and Doug will play a pivotal role in helping AHA members anticipate the opportunities and challenges as they evolve to better serve their communities. Doug has extensive insights into health care providers and understands the pace of change in which they operate, which will be an asset for our members. We look forward to his creative leadership in helping us more effectively engage our members using new platforms and techniques,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack.

Shaw received his BA in mathematics and equivalent BA in English literature from the University of Chicago and his MBA from the New York Institute of Technology Ellis School of Business.
