Employment at hospitals and health systems decreased by more than 5,100 jobs in December, as U.S. jobs overall increased by 199,000, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Health care jobs overall decreased by more than 3,100, continuing to stay just above 16 million (seasonally adjusted). Many health care service providers saw increases, including physicians’ and dentists’ offices, along with home health care services; hospitals and nursing and residential care facilities saw decreases. Hospitals and health systems remain nearly 100,000 jobs below their pre-pandemic peak in February 2020.
