The MetroHealth System - Engage Quarrytown

The MetroHealth System recognizes that our health and well-being are the result of more than just the health care we receive and the choices we make, but also the places and conditions under which we live, learn, work, and play. Along with their efforts to provide high-quality, accessible health care to all residents of Cuyahoga County, they are committed to improving the community conditions that affect health – in direct partnership with residents. Engage Quarrytown partners with Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and the residents of their Quarrytown property. A keystone of the project is the formation of a Health Coalition, composed of and led primarily by residents along with other community partners. The group works to identify health priorities, create strategies and lead action, building opportunities for residents to live healthy lives, in ways that matter to them.

Who is it for?

Residents of Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Quarrytown property.

Why do they do it?

Engage Quarrytown is part of The MetroHealth System’s Community Health Advocacy Initiative, designed to address health disparities and improve the health status of local residents by taking action on the social determinants of health. This work is done in communities, in partnership with residents and other community institutions, following the Community Engagement Process designed by MetroHealth’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities.

Impact

Operating under a resident-created mission statement, “To promote healthier living for the residents of Quarrytown,” the first priority for action is healthy eating. While building a culture of health for Quarrytown, this process also aims to target social isolation, which has a direct impact on health.
