Rugby Laboratories, Major Pharmaceuticals and Leader Brands have recalled all liquid drug and dietary supplement products manufactured by PharmaTech LLC due to potential contamination with the bacteria Burkholderia cepacia, the Food and Drug Administration announced Friday. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, B. cepacia poses the greatest threat to hospitalized and critically ill patients and people with health problems such as weakened immune systems and chronic lung diseases. It can spread from person-to-person by direct contact and is often resistant to common antibiotics. Earlier this month, FDA and CDC alerted providers to a nationwide recall of two stool softeners made by PharmaTech due to potential contamination with the same bacteria.
