The American Society of Healthcare Risk Management presented its inaugural patient safety award to GBMC Healthcare at its annual conference last week in Orlando, FL. The award recognizes organizational excellence in patient safety and celebrates the efforts of risk management professionals in promoting patient safety across the health care enterprise. The recipient’s submission demonstrated how their application of Lean Daily Management principles were applied in a health care setting to improve patient safety. After GBMC adopted the change leadership methods, instances of catheter associated urinary tract infection at their facilities fell by 92% and surgical site infections fell by 85%. “ASHRM works every day to promote a culture of safe and trusted health care by recognizing member efforts that make a positive impact on the health and safety of patients,” said ASHRM Executive Director Kim Hoarle. “By applying management principles from other business sectors, GBMC Healthcare of Greater Baltimore demonstrated an innovative approach that lead to measurable improvements in patient safety.” ASHRM is an AHA professional membership group.
