Underage drinking in the U.S. decreased from 28.8% in 2002 to 22.7% in 2013, according to a new report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. During that period, underage binge drinking – having five or more drinks on the same occasion – decreased from 19.3% to 14.2%. Despite those declines, in 2013, about 8.7 million people aged 12 to 20 reported drinking alcohol in the past month and 5.4 million were current binge drinkers.
