Description

Wednesday, September 11 at 1:00 pm ET (12:00 pm CT, 11:00 am MT, 10:00 am PT)

The virtual nurse has been successful in adult hospitals but has limited utilization in pediatric hospitals. With a review of evidence and extensive planning, Nemours Children’s Health created an enterprise virtual nursing model. This presentation’s purpose is to share the process of introducing the virtual nurse, highlighting the involvement of clinical nurses, administrative requirements, job description, fiscal impact and outcomes. The presentation will review the responsibilities of the virtual nurse including completion of admission and discharge processes, patient education, chart audits, emergency response and mentoring. Finally, the presentation will highlight how the incorporation of the virtual has positively contributed to outcomes related to nurse and patient satisfaction with decreased readmission rates and improved communication with non-English speaking families.
