This virtual workshop series is intended for health care leaders to learn skills for managing a variety of types of conflict in health care settings.

Using the emotional intelligence model as a framework, other concepts from psychology, crucial conversations and TeamSTEPPS are woven together as a guideline for managing even the most difficult conflict scenarios. The series begins with a brief but in-depth review of emotional intelligence as well as other key concepts related to conflict and safety culture in health care. These concepts are then applied to conflict at the individual and team levels and to participant scenarios. Participants will leave with an actionable plan to address conflict.

Workshop Schedule and Overview

This workshop series begins on September 7, 2022 and concludes on September 28, 2022.

This live workshop series will be held on Zoom once a week across four weeks for approximately 90 minutes each. The sessions are designed to build on the materials presented in the previous week(s) with instruction, exercises and group discussions. Assignments are for your learning. The first assignment is to review the Emotional Intelligence model and if you are completely unfamiliar with it you might spend 30 minutes grasping the main concepts. After the second and third sessions you will have the opportunity to select a real-life situation for application or reflection using a handout to guide you and to prepare any questions or suggestions for others in the next session.

This workshop series is best suited for health care leaders in hospital or ambulatory care settings and those interested in solving specific team conflict issues. The main focus is for leaders to not only leave with a better knowledge base for assessing and intervening in team conflict but having applied it directly to their team conflict concerns.
