Jones Memorial Hospital - WAG Walking Trail

The WAG Trail is a nine-mile, multi-use recreation trail and historic transportation corridor in Allegany County, extending between the Village of Wellsville and the Pennsylvania state line. It follows the route of the former Wellsville, Addison and Galeton Railroad along the upper Genesee River, just a few miles from its headwaters. Four miles of the WAG Trail previously were open to the public: the northern two miles and the southern two miles between NY Route 19 and the state line. The remaining five miles in the middle section had a number of bridges and culverts that needed repair, as well as several areas of river erosion that needed to be addressed. Jones Memorial Hospital donated $10,000 of lumber from proceeds from its Ridgewalk and Run Event along with a 5K Glow Run.

Who is it for?

Everyone.

Why do they do it?

Population health is part of Jones Memorial Hospital’s mission; the hospital has partnered with their local Chamber to promote a walkable/bikeable community. They are encouraging community residents to walk, run, bike, fish and enjoy the area’s natural resources.

Impact

This donation helped complete two bridges and opened the trail from the Pennsylvania border to the Wellsville community.
