Waterbury Hospital - Youth Pipeline Initiatives

Waterbury Hospital offers Youth Pipeline Initiatives, a wide array of free programs educating parents and children about their civic rights and responsibilities, as well as the urgent need for higher education. Initiatives include the Parent Leadership Training Institute, Parents Supporting Educational Excellence, and People Empowering People, providing tools for parents, grandparents and community members to become advocates for their children and communities. Middle and high school students gain valuable exposure to health care careers through the Providing Early Acquaintance with Careers in Healthcare programs offered during spring break and summer.

Why do they do it?

Only 7 percent of Waterbury residents have graduate or professional degrees, making it difficult to find parents who can help their children start on the road to college.

Impact

Since the program’s inception in 2003, 2,922 students and 227 parents have graduated from the programs.
