Nemaha Valley Community Hospital developed Babies Best Start to provide low-income families with much-needed supplies for their babies. Every item is donated as a result of staff outreach to community members and local businesses, including: diapers, wipes, lotion, soap, diaper rash ointment, blankets, pacifiers, fingernail clippers, outlet covers, thermometers, medication dispensers, towels, clothing, baby books and educational books.

Low-income families with newborns in Nemaha County

Why do they do it?

The hospital’s social services staff saw a need to assist low-income families due to the limited resources available for newborns in the small community.

Impact

The program has grown each year and the amount of items received has doubled. Since the program’s inception in August 2011, the hospital has provided $10,800 worth of supplies to 47 local families.
