Longmont United Hospital - Healthy Learning Paths

All Colorado students, with a focus on early childhood and low-income schools

What is it?

Longmont United Hospital (LUH) partners with Healthy Learning Paths (HLP), a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower children to lead healthy lives through the Be Well, Learn Well® school program. LUH medical professionals are trained in the program and volunteer in schools. Using a science-based curriculum, they take students on a journey to become young scientists exploring how the body works. Students discover how to make choices to keep their bodies healthy and their minds happy.

Who is it for?

All Colorado students, with a focus on early childhood and low-income schools

Why do they do it?

LUH considers HLP a revolutionary program to encourage children to make healthy choices. They want to directly address the factors that support health and prevent disease.

Impact

In partnership with LUH, the program served more than 1,200 children in 66 classrooms last year. Nearly 80 percent of parents report that their children eat more fruits and vegetables and have increased physical activity.
