FDA Issues Emergency Use Authorization for Eli Lilly’s Bamlanivimab Monoclonal Antibody Treatment

The Food and Drug Administration Nov. 10 issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Eli Lilly and Company’s monoclonal antibody therapy, bamlanivimab. The EUA authorizes the product’s use, but only in outpatient settings; additionally, it sets forth the type of patients eligible to receive the treatment, the drug’s storage requirements and a brief overview of how distribution will work.

Funding for the federal government, as well as other key health care provisions, are set to expire Dec. 11. It is imperative that we work to ensure that hospitals and health systems — and their front-line caregivers — receive additional federal support as we continue to navigate public health and financial challenges due to COVID-19.
