Hospital leaders, new analysis detail how COVID-19’s ongoing negative financial impact on hospitals threatens patients’ access to care

A new analysis prepared by Kaufman, Hall & Associates LLC and released by the AHA shows that even under the most optimistic scenario, including a smooth vaccine roll-out and reduced COVID-19 hospitalizations, 39% of hospitals would operate in the red in 2021, a marked increase over pre-pandemic baselines.

Senate Medicare Sequestration Moratorium Advocacy

The Senate is expect to soon consider bipartisan legislation introduced last week by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, that would prevent the 2% across-the-board cut to all Medicare payments, known as sequestration, from taking effect during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The AHA is asking its members to immediately help muster support in the Senate — particularly among Republicans — for the Medicare Sequester Relief Act (S. 748).

AHA to Host April 1 All-Member Call on COVID-19 with Special Guest FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate

The AHA continues to host calls on COVID-19 during which hospital and health system leaders can hear the latest updates on the pandemic and ask questions to AHA team members. AHA Board Chair Rod Hochman, M.D., and AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack will lead the next call, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 1 from 3-4:15 p.m. ET.
