AHA Submits Comments on No Surprises Act Interim Final Regulations

The AHA today submitted comments to the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor and Treasury, as well as the Office of Personnel Management, on the first interim final regulations implementing the No Surprises Act. These regulations address key elements of the No Surprises Act, including the ban on certain balance billing, the process for seeking patient consent to balance bill, the calculation of patient cost-sharing, the interaction between federal and state laws, and oversight. Other provisions of the law, including those related to the independent dispute resolution process and good faith estimates of the cost of care, will be handled in subsequent regulations.

Comments are due to the departments by 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. The AHA encourages all hospitals and health systems to submit their own comments.
