Marna Borgstrom to Receive 2023 AHA Board of Trustees Award

WASHINGTON (April 13, 2023) — The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that Marna P. Borgstrom, former CEO of Yale New Haven Health in New Haven, Conn., will be awarded its 2023 Board of Trustees Award. The Board of Trustees Award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA on behalf of the hospital field.

Borgstrom will receive the award during an April 24 ceremony at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

“Marna has always represented the very best in health care,” said Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO. “Her leadership on improving quality, promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting medical research and training the next generation of health care professionals has been felt through America’s hospitals and health systems. The AHA and the hospital field have benefited tremendously from her counsel, wisdom and leadership.”

Borgstrom served in many roles with the AHA, including on the AHA Board of Trustees from 2019 to 2021. She also chaired the AHA Operations Committee and the Advisory Group on Seizing the Conversation. In addition, she led the board of the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care. Borgstrom was a member of multiple tasks forces and strategic leadership groups.

During her 17 years as CEO, Yale New Haven Health achieved consistent growth in many key areas including doubling the number of medical staff, significantly increasing bed capacity and the creating of several ambulatory facilities throughout Connecticut.

Borgstrom retired as CEO of Yale New Haven Health in March of 2022.
