AHA Award of Honor to be Presented to the Kaiser Family Foundation

WASHINGTON (April 5, 2016) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) will present its 2016 Award of Honor to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation of Menlo Park, Calif., for being a leader in health policy analysis, health journalism and communication. The award, presented on May 2 as part of the AHA’s Annual Meeting, is given to individuals or organizations in recognition of exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of our nation through leadership on major health policy or social initiatives.

The Kaiser Family Foundation is a non-profit organization focusing on the major health care issues facing the U.S., as well as the U.S. role in global health policy. The Foundation develops and runs its own research, journalism and communications programs, sometimes in partnership with other non-profit research organizations or major media companies.

“The Kaiser Foundation is a trusted, non-partisan source of needed facts and critical information on health issues,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “By reaching all audiences on a variety of topics – from the young person researching HIV to Medicare information for the elderly – the Foundation provides a valuable service for health consumers.”

The award will be accepted by Foundation President and CEO Drew Altman.

Previous Award of Honor winners include organizations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Ohio Hospital Association’s Energy and Sustainability Program, Reach Out and Read, Ronald McDonald House Charities®, the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices and Habitat for Humanity. Individuals such as Spencer Johnson, past president of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association in Okemos, Mich.; Rhonda Anderson, R.N., DNSc, chief executive officer, Cardon Children’s Medical Center; George Halvorson, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente; and Donald M. Berwick, M.D., former administrator of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and former president and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement have also been honored.
