Hospitals treat victims from Florida mass shooting
Orlando (FL) Regional Medical Center treated 44 victims from a mass shooting at a gay nightclub that left 53 injured and 50 dead, including the shooter. Many patients had multiple high-velocity gunshot wounds and were immediately transported to operating rooms, according to the hospital, part of Orlando Health and the region’s only level one trauma center. Nine patients died and six have been discharged. Five of the remaining patients are in grave condition and a number remain critically ill. The hospital continues to provide updates on social media. Eleven patients from the shooting, the worst in the nation’s history, were brought to Florida Hospital Orlando, where six have since been discharged and the rest are in fair condition. “Our hearts are broken and we share in our community's grief,” the hospital said in a statement. “We mourn for those killed in this horrific incident, and we are praying for their loved ones, as well as for healing for the wounded.” Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in the county and said the Florida Department of Health had activated its emergency mortuary operations and was closely monitoring the blood supply.
