On April 24 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., AHA will present its highest honor — the Distinguished Service Award — to Jim Skogsbergh, co-CEO of Advocate Health in Downers Grove, Ill., for his long career as a leader in health care transformation and innovation, patient safety and population health and his abiding commitment to the communities the health system serves. Skogsbergh led Advocate Aurora Health from 2018 to 2022, when it combined with Atrium Health to form Advocate Health, and previously served as president and CEO of Advocate Health Care since 2002. He also served as 2016 chair of the AHA Board of Trustees, among other leadership roles.

“Jim embodies what it means to be a transformative leader, always motivated by providing the best quality care for each patient who walks through Advocate Health’s doors,” said Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO. “He approaches challenges and opportunities with the perspective of a servant leader, focusing on the needs of others and the communities Advocate Health serves. His work has had an impact at the national, regional and local levels and will be felt for years to come.”
