Forty state Medicaid programs newly allowed or expanded audio-only telehealth services for behavioral health in 2022, and 39 expanded the types of behavioral health services eligible for telehealth delivery, according to a supplement to the annual Kaiser Family Foundation survey of state Medicaid directors. In addition, 28 states expanded the behavioral health provider types eligible to deliver Medicaid services via telehealth, and nearly all responding states had at least one strategy to expand the behavioral health workforce, the survey found.
