The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today released an action plan designed to promote equitable health care for people of all backgrounds, as well as close disparity gaps across the Department of Health and Human Services. The goals of CMS’ action plan include:

* Promoting culturally and linguistically appropriate services in organizations;
* Enrolling more people in Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program and Health Insurance Marketplace; and
* Incorporating screening for and promoting broader access to health-related social needs.

CMS encourages hospital and health system leaders to commit to advancing health equity, and plans to meet with leaders throughout 2022 to discuss creating progress in their health equity journey.
