The Health Resources and Services Administration will use $4.8 billion from the American Rescue Plan Act to reimburse health care providers for testing uninsured individuals for COVID-19 through its COVID-19 Uninsured Program, the Department of Health and Human Services announced today. The program helps reimburse providers and facilities that test, treat and administer vaccinations to uninsured individuals for COVID-19.

“As we vaccinate the country, let’s continue taking the preventive measures necessary to keep the virus under control and prevent it from spreading,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “…This funding will help ensure everyone has access to testing regardless of whether they have health insurance.”

As of May 19, the program has provided over $4 billion for COVID-19 testing, $2.5 billion for treatment, and $85 million for vaccinations to the uninsured, HHS said.
