As health care organizations increasingly use telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council (HSCC) today released a report to help health care leaders assess and mitigate associated cybersecurity risks.

The council, a coalition that works with the government to protect the nation’s critical health care infrastructure, encourages stakeholders to adopt the recommendations as appropriate for their risk profile to protect patients and their personal health information.

“With the necessary and appropriate expansion of telehealth will come heightened cyber risk as adversaries attempt to exploit the increased use of remote technologies and devices,” said John Riggi, senior advisor for cybersecurity and risk. “Acknowledging the presence of increased cyber risk and implementing mitigating controls such as those outlined in the HSCC guide will go a long way toward reducing cyber risk and increasing the resiliency of telehealth.”
