CMS: 2015 Marketplace special enrollments total 944,000 through June
About 944,000 Americans used a special enrollment period to select a 2015 health plan at HealthCare.gov between Feb. 23 and June 30, according to a report released today by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Half of them qualified for special enrollment because they lost health coverage, 19% because they were deemed ineligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and 15% because they qualified for a special tax season enrollment period. The rest were eligible to select a plan outside of open enrollment for a variety of other reasons. Plan selections averaged 5,000 a day before March 15, 38,000 per day during tax season, and 6,000 per day in May and June. Health insurance marketplaces in 37 states use the HealthCare.gov platform.
