Leaders of the Black Maternal Health Caucus today virtually convened the second annual Stakeholder Summit, where members of Congress and supporting organizations urged passage of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act (H.R. 6142/S. 3424) to end preventable maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, and eliminate disparities in maternal health outcomes. AHA and its American Organization for Nursing Leadership subsidiary strongly support the legislation, which was introduced in March by caucus members.

In remarks shared with the summit via video, AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack and AONL CEO Robyn Begley, AHA senior vice president and chief nursing officer, highlight how and why the two organizations are working with members and others to ensure the highest quality of care for Black mothers and babies, including through the AHA’s Better Health for Mothers and Babies Initiative.

For more on the issue, see today’s AHA podcast with Black Maternal Health Caucus co-founder Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., lead sponsor of the legislation in the House.
