CMS: 2020 HealthCare.gov enrollment approaches 3.9 million

Nearly 3.9 million people selected a 2020 health plan through HealthCare.gov Nov. 1 to Dec. 7, including more than 1 million last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reported today. About three-quarters of those selecting plans were renewing coverage and the rest were new consumers. The report shows total plan selections as of Saturday for each of the 38 states using HealthCare.gov for 2020 open enrollment, which began Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 15. According to a separate CMS report released today, nearly 10.2 million people had individual market coverage through the federal and state-based exchanges in the first six months of 2019. That’s about 85,000, or 0.8%, fewer than in the first half of 2018. The average monthly premium in the first six months was $593.29, 0.4% less than in the prior-year period, while the average Advanced Premium Tax Credit was $513.91, 1% less. About 87% of enrollees in the first half of 2019 received an APTC.
