CMS awards $10 million in grants to health insurance navigators

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has awarded 34 organizations grants to help consumers shop for and enroll in health coverage as navigators in states with federally-facilitated health insurance exchanges. The recipients will partner with public and private organizations in their communities, many of which include hospitals, to provide targeted outreach to consumers who could benefit from individual market coverage, coordinating with local Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program outreach. The funding amount is consistent with last year’s level, but significantly less than previous years. The grants awarded this year have a period of performance of two years from the award date, Aug. 30, 2019, to Aug. 29, 2021. The 2020 open enrollment period for the federal health insurance exchange is Nov. 1, 2019 to Dec. 15, 2019. View a listing of grantees here.
