Project Ujima: Changing Lives by Reducing the Reoccurrence of Violence for Victims of Violence

The American Hospital Association's Section for Maternal and Child Health in partnership with our Hospitals Against Violence (HAV) initiative invite you to an upcoming webinar. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin will provide example on how hospitals and health systems can play a leading role in their community to combat escalating violence and to break the cycle of violence for victims and families. 

Project Ujima is a community-focused, multi-disciplinary collaboration addressing youth and adult interpersonal violence. Its goal is to stop the cycle of violent crimes by reducing the number of repeat victims of violence using individual, family and community intervention and prevention strategies. Hospital-based services, home-based services, community-based services, and community and professional education serve youth and adult victims of violent crime in Milwaukee County. With 20 years of service to the community, Project Ujima can document success and positive change.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe the experience of violence in Milwaukee, including incidence of street/gang violence
• Provide a brief history and current program/service components of Project Ujima
• Understand the innovative approaches and community partnerships working in Milwaukee to stop the cycle of violence for victims and families
• Learn about their success as highlighted in program evaluation and key findings
• Obtain answers to your questions in a lively Q&A session with presenters

Please join us for a discussion with two leaders at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin: Marlene Melzer-Lange, M.D., professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, medical director of Project Ujima and EMS director at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; and Bridget Clementi, vice president for Community Health at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, who works with community and governmental organizations, elected officials and philanthropic entities across Greater Milwaukee on community health improvement including violence prevention.
