ABMS announces plan to implement continuing certification changes

The American Board of Medical Specialties Board of Directors yesterday announced its plan to implement recommendations to improve the continuing certification process. Initial steps include establishing a committee and four task forces to oversee and guide the implementation strategy. ABMS commissioned a panel to review the continuing certification process, which recently released its recommendations. “As a community, we are eager to begin implementing the commission’s recommendations that represent the needs of all our stakeholders,” said Chair Barry Smith, M.D. “We are also committed to maintaining the inclusive nature of the commission and will work with external stakeholders as well as those within the Boards as we move forward.” AHA is an associate member of ABMS, the leading not-for-profit organization overseeing physician certification in the United States.
