The AHA’s American Society for Healthcare Engineering this week presented its 2017 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for its project to create a unified operations and communications hub that uses real-time data to effectively manage the movement of patients. “This unified operation has helped our institution reduce transportation times, improve the patient acceptance process and optimize system communication,” said Mark Mullarkey, executive vice president for the 745-bed hospital. Presented during National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week, the annual award recognizes individuals or facility management departments that implement new or innovative programs or processes to optimize the physical environment and improve patient care. ASHE is an AHA personal membership group for professionals who design, build, maintain, and operate hospitals and other health care facilities.
