Pa. health system receives 2018 Foster McGaw Prize

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health in Lancaster County, Pa., today received the 2018 Foster G. McGaw Prize for its leadership role in improving care for individuals and families in its community, and will receive $100,000 toward programs that further these goals. "LG Health illustrates how moving from understanding that the social determinants of health — sociocultural, built and economic environments — have a significant impact on communities to action with community partners beyond the walls of the hospital improve health and well-being," said Robert Valdez, chairman of the prize committee. “The impact and effects of its initiatives is a model for all hospitals and local organizations when going above and beyond to respond to its community’s identified health priorities and address access to care.” Named as 2018 finalists and receiving $10,000 each are: Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston; Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco; and Tanner Health System in Carrollton, Ga. The annual award is sponsored by Baxter International Foundation, the AHA and its Health Research & Educational Trust affiliate. For more on the recipients, see the AHA news release.
