Marna P. Borgstrom, who retired last March as CEO of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health, and Andy Carter, who will retire in June as president and CEO of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, will receive 2023 AHA Board of Trustees Awards April 24 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., for their contributions to AHA and the field.

Borgstrom served on the AHA Board of Trustees from 2019 to 2021, chaired the AHA Operations Committee and Advisory Group on Seizing the Conversation, and was a member of multiple tasks forces and strategic leadership groups. She also led the board of the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care, of which AHA is a founding member.

“Marna has always represented the very best in health care,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Her leadership on improving quality, promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting medical research and training the next generation of health care professionals has been felt through America’s hospitals and health systems. The AHA and the hospital field have benefited tremendously from her counsel, wisdom and leadership.”

Carter has served on AHA’s Regional Policy Board for New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania; Committee on Nominations; Task Force on Ensuring Access in Vulnerable Communities; Institute for Diversity and Health Equity Board; AHAPAC Steering Committee; and Committee on Performance Improvement.

“Andy’s had an outstanding career across advocacy, business and government,” Pollack said. “He believes passionately that being an effective advocate means not just championing one’s field, but actively working to improve it.”
