Thomas Zenty III, former CEO of University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, and Scott Malaney, former president and CEO of Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay, Ohio, will receive 2021 AHA Board of Trustees Awards April 25 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., for their contributions to AHA and the field.

Zenty has served the AHA in various leadership roles since 1998, including serving on the AHA Board of Trustees and chairing the AHA’s Health Research & Educational Trust affiliate and the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care, of which the AHA is a founding member.

“Throughout his career Tom has been committed to transparency, patient safety, diversity and health equity,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “He brought this perspective and vision to his service on the AHA Board of Trustees and the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care. His leadership, strategic thinking and laser-like focus on health care quality helped transform our health care system.”

Malaney served on the AHA Board of Trustees from 2009 to 2011, and has chaired the AHA Task Force on Variation in Health Care Spending and AHA Committee of Commissioners to The Joint Commission, among other leadership roles.

“When asked to be an AHA Commissioner to The Joint Commission, Scott embraced this opportunity to bring his professional experience and a passion for quality to this important role,” Pollack said. “His combination of analytical thinking, understanding of the practical challenges and issues facing hospitals, and attention to detail made him an outstanding leader on the Commission.”
