USP issues compounding guidance
U.S. Pharmacopeia yesterday issued guidance on strategies for conserving sterile compounding personal protective equipment and for compounding alcohol-based hand sanitizers to address consumer shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Food and Drug Administration recently said it does not intend to take action against compounders that prepare alcohol-based hand sanitizers for consumer use for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, provided that certain production guidelines are met.
