CMS: 2020 HealthCare.gov enrollment surpasses 8.3 million

More than 8.3 million people selected a 2020 health plan through HealthCare.gov Nov. 1 to Dec. 17, including more than 4.4 million last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reported today. Open enrollment ended at 3 a.m. ET on Dec. 18. The latest count does not include consumers who enrolled early on Dec. 18 or left their contact information at the call center due to high volume. About three-quarters of those selecting plans were renewing coverage and the rest were new consumers. The report shows plan selections in each of the 38 states using HealthCare.gov for 2020 open enrollment, which began Nov. 1. CMS plans to release a final 2020 enrollment report in March, including data from state-based exchanges that do not use the HealthCare.gov platform.
