Robyn Begley, AHA senior vice president and chief nursing officer and CEO of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and Priya Bathija, vice president of AHA’s The Value Initiative, participated today in a panel discussion sponsored by the National Academy of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Nursing 2020-2030, which focused on efforts to promote health equity into care delivery and models.

“Hospitals are putting patient experience at the center of what they do by developing new models of care and embracing new strategies to improve value and health equity,” Bathija said.

Begley added, “Nurses are a key player in that work and have the opportunity to innovate and develop new solutions for the future.”

Begley and Bathija shared numerous examples, highlighted through AHA’s The Value Initiative, of how AHA members are working with nurses and others to address patients’ social needs and social determinants of health, noting the importance of going beyond assessment to individualize care.
