The AHA and American College of Healthcare Executives today led a joint session at the World Hospital Congress of the International Hospital Federation in Oman on how American hospital and health system leaders respond to natural disasters, crises and workplace violence and how to build resilience. AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack led the discussion featuring AHA Chairman Brian Gragnolati, president and CEO of Atlantic Health System; AHA Chair-elect Melinda Estes, M.D., president and CEO of Saint Luke’s Health System; and David Olson, senior vice president and chief strategy and business development officer of Froedtert Health. The hospital leaders provided examples of how leadership can build a resilient workforce to maintain and sustain support for those who experience disaster and trauma, as well as lessons learned and improvements made to drive successful outcomes. The annual event gathers global health care professionals to share learnings, lessons and best practices. See Gragnolati’s Nov. 4 Chairman’s File column for more on the conference.
