AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack opened today's AHA Leadership Summit talking about the theme of this year's meeting, "Lead – Connect – Transform." He shared how hospitals and health systems are leading in their communities; addressing affordability and value; and creating new models of care and building a stronger workforce. During a time of rapid change and disruption in health care, Pollack talked about seizing the opportunity to improve and provide better care for patients. He said communities will always lean on their hospitals, including in times of disasters, outbreaks and tragedies; to perform sophisticated diagnostics, therapies and surgeries; and conduct medical research and train the next generation of caregivers. "At the same time, we're also working to provide coordinated and convenient care beyond our four walls that is more responsive to patients and communities than ever before ... all with an enhanced focus on wellness and prevention," he said.
